Smoke alarms save lives we all know this, but since 1 October 09 it has become mandatory to install 240 volt hard wired smoke alarms with a back up battery when selling or renting out a house. Again much like RCD's even if you are not intending to sell or rent your house smoke alarms could very well be a life saving investment.
